String Art "Rose" by CuriousG30RGE String Art "Rose" by CuriousG30RGE
This is my Rose [String Art] that i made for my Geometry Class in 11th grade. [2006]

- took me many gruesome hours nailing over a hundred small nails to a wooden board. Then even more hours inter winding all the string. (had to go to Wal-Mart for more string a couple of times)

- took me around 20+ hours to complete

- Actual Size: 2 Feet by 2 Feet

*I'm a bit sorry to say that I don't have the instructions and since its been aroud 5 years since I did this I don't really remember how I stringed it in detail.

Omg, hey G3ORGE, do you have the instructions for someone to redo this? This looks so freakin' awesome! I haven't done stufff like this in 6 years, so I am a little rusty. I especially would appreciate if you could tell me how you wrapped the string in the center of the rose with holes. Thanks in advance!

Sorry but I don't have them. I don't remember ever keeping the instructions after I completed it. I believe there might have been 3 if not just only two different ways I wrapped the string in this project. I only remember two though, one being the one where you wrap it around the center nail back and forth until the area is fully covered. The other way which is the one I believe you're asking about is where I didn't use a nail in the middle and just strung the nails in a triangular pattern until I came around to the initial nail with string. Once you do a full loop around a certain set of nails it should create a somewhat round empty space in the middle. I wish I could be of more help but good luck either way ;)

It was from a book of string art that my teacher of the moment handed me. I went a little further. I made it larger and tweaked it a bit. I don't have the book or template itself.

I chose to do string art for my math fair project, do you know of any sites how I can prove how mathematics affect the shapes of the pattern in the middle?

Umm... sorry but i really don't. It does matter though how many nails you use for a specific section [note the leaf on the right which differs from the others]. I didn't have the right amount of nails, so i did what any artist does in situations like that... Improvise ")

A long time ago, back in the late 60's, I was in a 5th grade class that made this type of string art using heavy paper and crochet thread.

Your string art is absolutely lovely, and you certainly have creative talent.

Thank you for sharing this with the community.

I'm sorry to tell you i don't have or know of any instructions on how to this exactly. My teacher (years ago) handed me a book for patterns and i chose this one. I didn't really follow the book on how to do it seeing as how i freehanded(drew the outline) it on the wood. I did use the book for learning how to string it though,, but i'm sure you can find that online somewhere.

Its a very long process(sometimes frustrating) so i'm just giving you a heads up :)
